Joy vs Happiness

Joy vs. happiness; one of the definitions I want to have for my class on Wednesday night. At its simplest I thought; happiness is walking into a room where my grandson is and see him light up in a smile when he sees me. Joy is having him as part of my life even though he does get ill, and spit up, and mess his diaper. Happiness is about the moment, joy is about the attitude.

What about it? Can you help me any with this one?

Comments:
For me, joy is an overall state of mind. You have joy in your life even on the roughest of days. Happiness though, seems to be a moment to moment thing. You could be happy that you got a great purchase for half off, but if you get cut off in the mall parking lot, that happiness could be overtaken by other, less happy emotions, thoughts, and / or hand signals.

I've got a pretty good article on happiness by a Jewish theologian named Dennis Prager. He makes the point that happiness is not fun! Interested? Email me at matt@campuschurch.org and I can fax it somewhere.
