Monday thoughts

I had to share with you the "Daily Meditation" portion of the reading I am doing for Lent.

-------

Daily Meditation:
Bring us back to you.

We repeat our desire that God bring us home from our wandering.
We know that in the confusion that surrounds us and can fill us,
we need the gift of Wisdom.

It is fitting that our very first "lesson" in our faith,
is the last judgment scene that Jesus paints for us.
We will be judged on whether we:
fed the hungry
welcomed the stranger
clothed the naked
comforted the sick
visited the imprisoned.

It is powerful to re-learn this wisdom - Jesus identifies with each of these "least" cared for.

Who might we feed, welcome, clothe, comfort or visit this week?
As my heart might "resist" this mission,
I might beg to be brought back, with all my heart.

Daily Reading Matthew 25: 31-46

Comments:
Great thoughts Donna. The priest yesterday said that if we made our lunches this lenten season and put the money in a jar we would buy three meals per day for someone at the homeless shelter. The class was great by the way.

It's eye opening to know that we are each expected to minister to those in need. We can't wait on those around us, the government, the agencies, etc. It's our responsibility. I think the reason most children grow up not understanding that is because we think we've fulfilled out obligations by writing a check to an agency. When this happens, our children don't see the work in action. We need to take them to the shelters and get there hands involved in the work. They need to see "the need". They also need to understand "the need" and what they can do to be Jesus to many different people.
Thanks for the posting. It reminded me of something I need to do today.

Yesterday we celebrated the bridges that God has made between our church family and the community and people affected by Katrina. It was really neat to have all the visitors in service with us and all the talk was of how blessed we are because they have come into our lives and allowed us to help or be a part of their efforts to help. Then we ended the service with 3 baptisms! Each had been imprisoned and started attending Freedom Church during their transitional time. I'm hoping that they will come back to Westover at some point. While we were visiting afterwards, another woman who was visiting from Kansas City wanted to be baptised, so we all stuck around for that too!! The Lord was in the house and it was humbling and exciting to see His work! Thanks for the post Donna!

Lord let us be Your light.

Funny how God works to bring things to our attention. Well maybe funny is not the right word.

Thanks for the reminder!
