Give Me The Bible

I need a new Bible. The last one I bought in June 2005 is falling apart. I bought a leather bound NLT version at Bible Factory Outlet and it is coming un-bound.

Currently I have the following versions:
KJV
NKJV
NIV
NLT
The Book
The Message

I find myself reading/studying out of The Book at lot. But I really do like the way the NLT reads as well.

Anyone have suggestions? I may hit the bookstore this weekend.

Comments:
(insert twilight zone theme music here:)

my NLT (giant print) did the same thing on the spine, and it was/is my favorite to read from, not just because i can read it easier, but because i find it easier to 'read' and understand. i read it in my way of talking. (does that make sense?)

if i were you, i would stick woth the NLT, but maybe get a cover for it.

how was your trip to the coast? the 'last hour' thing with teens was really great. it was good to hear randy harris again, too.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
ROLL TIDE!!

I have a Today's NIV/The Message parallel that I really like.

Scott reads teaches and preaches from the English Standard Vers. I like it too. I have also heard good things about TNIV.

I now use the TNIV for everything, and I love it.

It receives my highest recommendation.

The TNIV is a very good version, no question. I love God's Word version, especially in its powerful treatment of Old Testament prophets and poetry. It is a masterpiece.

Little update**

The Christian Book store was having a sale...so I bought a new NLT- different cover maybe it will last longer and a TNIV! I got them both for what the one that fell apart cost me...

And I don't know how it happened but Max Lucado's new book (Facing YOur Giants) ended up in my check out line too...it came with a free book God Came Near, which is one of the few I didn't have! Yipee!

You have brought up good point, I have an old NRSV that i've had for a few years and enjoy reading it..I don't like the NIV and have struggled with a lot over versions. I don't like huge bibles in fact my only study bible sits on my desk for studying. So I started looking at NRSV and just can't find one that will fit in my back pocket unless I have my glasses glued on my head so what's a man to do.

is either of the new ones a special edition; the NLT, and TNIV?

I would stick with the NLT or TNIV. I have read the RSV for years. My trouble is finding one with pages thick enough to write on without it being huge.

I am currently using the Max Lucado Inspirational Study Bible. It has alot of wonderful little "in the margin" reads. It says it is the New Century Version. Breaking in a new Bible is a job! Good luck. Transferring all the notes/highlights etc. makes you study more. I have gotton lots of retreat topics/devotional topics out of it. My daughter has another version which is geared to Women that she likes too. Sounds like a trip to Barnes and Noble is imminent.

I just noticed the one I have actually been carrying lately is a NCV. I usually don't even think about which version I pick up.

I am reading Facing Your Giants currently. Good stuff. Looks like I might need to check out the TNIV as well. I have the NIV and read The Message for personal study.

Maybe not a new bible but maybe a different pace :)

I use New Century and New International most of the time, but I find myself using many versions during deep studies.

I love the ESV, I am with tracy on this one. I also enjoy the NKJV as well as the NCV.
